About

sonic switchyard is a mobile sound and lighting outfit specializing in immersive, hifi environments for dancefloors, ceremonies, and everything in between. we design systems that scale with intention: minimal rigs for off-grid, intimate gatherings, full-spectrum setups for late-night abandon.

our approach combines technical precision with emotional intuition. no presets. no assumptions. just a deep commitment to making moments resonate.

  • joey frostad is the architect and operator of sonic switchyard.

equal parts DJ, sound engineer, and systems obsessive, joey’s background spans underground dance floors, rituals, receptions, and immersive art installations. he brings a deep respect for acoustics, pacing, and energy, engineering moments where sound becomes sensation.

scientifically trained with a doctorate in health metrics from the UW, he approaches events as he approaches research: with precision, curiosity, and an ear for what lies just beneath the noise.

when not over the decks or under the hood, joey analyzes health systems, repairs retrofuturistic machines, and co-creates the stalk, a live darkwave techno duo dedicated to exploring power, control, and beautiful decay; blurring the line between hardware performance and séance.

  • colin quinn is sonic switchyard’s design lead and customer liaison, guiding clients from initial vision through to finely-tuned execution.

with a history in music dating back to the age of 5, colin has always been interested in the emotions that music can evoke from himself and those around him. from piano to voice to a pair of dj decks, he seeks to create moments that move people.

trained in the whole brain engineering program at northwestern university, colin works as an outdoor product design engineer, where he creates solutions for the physical world the same way he creates a feeling on the dancefloor, by marrying technical and creative approaches with passion and precision.

outside of music and product studios, colin sings baritone in seattle pro musica, works on renovating his home in south seattle, and explores the trails, forests and gravel roads of the greater pnw by bike and on foot.
